Olympic swimmer Dara Torres recently teamed up with the National Psoriasis Foundation to launch a national public service announcement (PSA) to raise awareness that psoriasis is a serious disease of the immune system and not just a cosmetic condition.
Torres, a 12-time Olympic medal winner and American record holder, encourages everyone living with this disease "to be their own champion" and seek support, information and proper treatment to effectively manage their psoriasis.
The champion swimmer, who has lived with psoriasis for nearly 20 years, is the first Olympic athlete to speak out about the disease
